Sales Advice: Wool Wash

We all know what it’s like – you have been out for a run, got a bit hot and sweaty, then once home you peel off your base layers, pop them straight in the washing machine and press start, ready to get them clean and fresh for your next fitness session.

Stop right there! What if they are woollen base layers? Do your customers know that this fabric requires a slightly different approach to synthetic base layers?

Nikwax Wool Wash is the go-to aftercare product you need to recommend to your customers when they purchase woollen next-to-skin clothing. It provides all the necessary care these garments require, in order to keep them in prime condition and performing at their best.

Here are some top facts to pass on to your customers to help them understand the power of choosing the correct aftercare product for their gear.

Woollen base layers

  • A natural fibre, Merino wool is fantastic at wicking away sweat and keeping the user dry and comfortable. It also contains natural antibacterial properties that help to curb the build-up of odours. Because of this, merino wool can firstly be washed less than its synthetic counterparts. Bonus!
  • Merino base layers are more delicate when it comes to washing due to their natural structure and should not be washed as rigorously, but rather on a lower heat – otherwise the fibres will shrink and base layers may end up that bit tighter than they should be!
  • Standard detergents and fabric conditioners can impair the natural performance of Merino wool; a garment’s natural wicking capabilities can be masked, causing the fabric to dry slower, absorb moisture and prevent it from actively helping to regulate body temperature.

Why use Wool Wash?

  • Wool Wash is water-based, containing none of the enzymes found in standard washing and conditioning products. Those pesky enzymes can weaken wool and over time start to eat away at the fabric.
  • It cleans AND conditions at the same time! Excellent – two products in one!
  • Its formula will enhance the natural wicking found in wool, ensuring that breathability is maintained and sweat will spread easily, dry faster and keep that body temperature regulated.
  • Wool Wash deodorises as it cleans! Base layers smell fresh and the potential for any odour build-up is removed – no stinky clothing to deal with during high energy activities.
  • Woollen base layers stay soft, providing enhanced user comfort and warmth during the colder months.

Wool Wash is so easy for your customers to use!

  • Shake well before use.
  • Place garments in the washing machine and use 50ml of Wool Wash.
  • Ensure garment is washed on a cycle according to its care label.
  • Dry the garment naturally – a low tumble dry setting can be used if the care label allows.
  • The user can also apply by hand: use 25ml of Wool Wash in hand-hot water in a sink or bowl, immerse the item(s) to clean. Ensure they are rinsed 3 times in cold water before leaving to dry.
