Keep your animals dry and comfortable with Nikwax aftercare
Nikwax® aftercare is formulated to safely clean and waterproof ALL animal rugs and coats, to help keep your animals warm, dry and comfortable throughout autumn and winter.
CLEAN with Nikwax Rug Wash
Effectively cleans away ALL dirt and contaminants on the fabric, revitalising its water repellency, insulation and breathability.
If water starts to be absorbed then moisture vapour is unable to escape through the fabric, resulting in the animal becoming clammy and losing warmth.
Cleaning with Rug Wash revives the durable water repellent (DWR) coating on the fabric, which keeps the animal protected in the rain and prevents moisture building up on the inside of the fabric. It is a vegetable-based soap cleaner, so is completely safe and free from any harmful chemicals.
How to use:
- 1 x rug per washing machine load.
- Washing machine must be large enough to allow movement of the rug in the drum.
- Use 150ml of Rug Wash per item and wash according to the care label.
- The rug must go through a thorough rinse cycle.
- Rug Wash can also be used by hand. Dilute 1 part Rug wash to 2 parts water and use a brush to work the solution into the fabric. Rinse thoroughly afterwards with cold water.
- Air-dry rugs after cleaning, or use a tumble dryer on a low setting if the care labels allows.
WATERPROOF with Nikwax Rug Proof
At least once a year, animal rugs and coats should be re-proofed with Rug Proof.
Over time the DWR coating will wear away and when Rug Wash will no longer revive the water repellency, then you know it is time to re-proof.
Rug Proof will add a new DWR coating that develops upon drying. It maintains the breathability of the item and will ultimately protect your horse in the rain. As with Rug Wash, Rug Proof is completely safe to use as it is water-based and contains no PFCs.
How to use:
- Clean first with Rug Wash.
- 1 x rug per washing machine load.
- Use 500ml of Rug Proof and wash on a 30° cotton cycle.
- Rug Proof can also be used by hand: use 500ml with 10 litres of hand-hot water. Agitate to mix and then add a further 15 litres of warm water – agitate and leave to soak for 2 hours. Rinse thoroughly afterwards in cold water.
- Rugs can be air dried, or use in a tumble dryer on a low setting if the care label allows.
